     2019 OBITUARY: Joan Burgess Flake passed away peacefully in her sleep on 11 Dec 2019. Born or 20 Mar 1934 in Greenwood, SC to Mary Jarrett and William Burgess, Sr. She was a devoted nurse for over 40 years, retiring from Frederick Memorial Hospital in 1997.  She was married for 55 years to Robert Flake, who passed away in 2009. She is survived by her three daughters, Janet Spinnler (Donald) of McClellanville, SC, Rebecca Lewis (Preston Sr) of Frederick, MD and Bonnie Orvig (Randall) of Huger, SC; 5 grandchildren, Bryan Spinnler, Jessica Stansbury (Cameron), Brittany Lewis, Preston Lewis Jr and Hunter Orvig and 2 great-grandchildren, Kendall and Adrian Stansbury. She is also survived by her sister, Patsy Harris and brother William Burgess, Jr and two sister-in-laws, Jean Burgess and Nancy C Burgess and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her sisters Marian Stephens and Nancy V Burgess, brothers Calvin Burgess and Jerry Burgess, sister-in-law Jackie Burgess, brother-in laws Cecil Stephens and Wayne Harris.

     The family would like to express their gratitude to the staff at North Hampton Manor Nursing Home in Frederick, MD for their love and care over the past two years.
