     1875 MOVE TO OREGON: Harmon Parks Brittain moved his family west in 1875 by ox team to Wamic, Oregon. He was a cautious, frugal man who did not trust banks. His small civil war pension should have generated some cash when he died. When he died the family began looking for the money, eyeing each other, wondering what happened. Finally, someone remembered he sewed his money into the lining of his coat. He was buried in his one suit-- along with the money.
