     2001 OBITUARY:
Madie McMillan Blankenship, 79, of 340 Carver Road, Martinsville, died Thursday, March 1, 2001, at Memorial Hospital of Martinsville and Henry County. She was born Sep 16, 1921, in Axton to Samuel Coleman McMillan and Lillian Wright McMillan, both deceased. Three brothers, Clarence McMillan, Lewis McMillan and Junior McMillan, also preceded her in death. Before her retirement, she was employed by Lacy Manufacturing Co and Pannill Knitting Co. She was a Baptist.
     Survivors include her husband, Jesse E Blankenship of the home; two daughters, Janet Pagans of Martinsville and Shirley Wilson of Charlottesville; one son, Wayne Blankenship of Martinsville; four grandchildren; seven sisters, Bernice Duncan, Ruby Briggs, May Harris and Anna Burton, all of Martinsville, Janie Richardson and Mildred Shoe of Burlington, NC, and Elva Thacker of Harve de Grace, MD; one brother, Coleman McMillan of Axton.
     The funeral will be conducted at 2 pm today at McKee-Stone Funeral Services Chapel by the Rev Dan Shilling. Burial will be in Roselawn Burial Park.      2002 OBITUARY: Roosevelt Blankenship, 68, of 2560 Kings Mountain Road, Martinsville, died Thursday, Aug. 8, 2002, at his residence. He was born in Martinsville on June 13, 1934, a son of Homer Blankenship and Helen Cobbler Blankenship, both deceased.
     He served in the US Navy aboard the USS Missouri during the Korean Conflict and retired in 1996 from Bassett Oil and Equipment where he had worked for 36 years. He was a member of Fort Trial Baptist Church.
     Surviving are his wife, Carlene T Blankenship of the home; two daughters Nancy Hillsman of Durham, NC, and Delia Olson Barnes of Cary, NC; one sister, Nellie Branscom of Ridgeway; six brothers, William Blankenship of Bassett, John Blankenship of Ridgeway, Charlie Blankenship and Clifford Blankenship, both of Collinsville, Stuart Blankenship of Stuart and Raymond Blankenship of Axton; and three grandchildren. The funeral will be held at 2 pm Saturday at McKee-Stone Funeral Services with the Rev Kenneth R Leonard officiating. Burial will be in Roselawn Burial Park. 

 

     2006 OBITUARY: Herman Denver Blankenship, 82, of 110 Greyson St., Martinsville, died Friday, March 31, 2006, at his home. He was born May 15, 1923, in Fork Mountain, to James Granville Blankenship and Henrietta Keys Blankenship.

     He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Inez Nunn; and four brothers, Curtis Blankenship, Russell Blankenship, Kenneth "Tenny" Blankenship and Henry Junior Blankenship.
     He served in the Army's 252nd Combat Engineers Battalion in the European Theater during World War II. He worked for the former Bowman Motor Sales for a period and retired as a band saw operator at W.M. Bassett Furniture. He was of the Baptist faith.
     Surviving are his wife of 59 years, Margarette Parker Blankenship; a son, Gerald Denver "Jerry" Blankenship of Martinsville; a daughter, Margaret "Mickey" Blankenship Beck of Martinsville; a sister, Marie Blankenship of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; and a brother, Jesse Blankenship.
     A funeral will be held at 2 pm today at Norris Funeral Services chapel with Dr Calvin Rains and Pastor Mike Smith officiating. Burial will be in Roselawn Burial Park.

     2009 OBITUARY:
Beulah Mary Blankenship, 89, of 1009 Adele Street, Martinsville died Friday, April 10, 2009 at Memorial Hospital of Martinsville and Henry County. Born in Franklin County on May 18, 1919 she was the Daughter of the late Jennie Bolling Moore and Early Moore. She was a homemaker and of the Baptist Faith. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Kenneth Blankenship, two sisters and two brothers. 
     Surviving are Five Daughters: Virginia Birge of Smith, Alabama; Brenda McNeil of Sanford Fla; Linda Faye Allen of Roanoke; Lois Lombardi of Gerardstown WV; and Mary Lee Dove of Martinsville. Two Sisters, Four Brothers, twelve Grandchildren twenty one Great grandchildren and Six Great-great Grandchildren. 
     Funeral services will be held 11:00 am Tuesday April 14, 2009 at Norris Funeral Services Chapel in Martinsville with the Rev. Mike Hatfield officiating. Family will receive friends on Monday night at Norris Chapel from 7-8:30 and other times at the home on 1012 Chalmers St. in Martinsville. Norris Funeral Service, Inc and Crematory, Martinsville, VA is serving the Blankenship family.

The funeral for William H Blankenship, 81, of Bassett, who died Dec 4, 2010, at Memorial Hospital in Martinsville, will be held at 2 pm Tuesday at Collins-McKee-Stone Funeral Home in Bassett with Minister Lawrence Harris officiating. Burial will be in Roselawn Burial Park with military honors by the Martinsville-Henry County Veterans Honor Guard.
The family will receive friends from noon to 1:45 pm Tuesday at the funeral home before the service and other times at the home of his daughter, Linda Kanode, at 1203 Corn Tassel Trail, Martinsville.
     He was born in Henry County on Nov. 18, 1929, to Homer and Helen Cobler Blankenship. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Roosevelt Blankenship and John Davis "JD" Blankenship.
     Blankenship served in the Army during the Korean Conflict and was awarded the Purple Heart. He retired from Bassett Oil and Equipment, where he was co-owner and operator. He was a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church.
     Surviving, in addition to his daughter, are his wife, Virginia Haskins Blankenship of the home; a sister, Nellie Branscome of Ridgeway; four brothers, Charles Marshall Blankenship and H Clifford Blankenship, both of Collinsville, T Stuart Blankenship of Stuart and Raymond "Ray" Blankenship of Axton; one grandson; one great-grandson; two stepgranddaughters; and three stepgreat-grandchildren.

     2011 OBITUARY: The funeral for Virginia Haskins Blankenship, 78, of Bassett, who died Feb 9, 2011, will be at 2 pm Saturday at Collins-McKee-Stone Funeral Home in Bassett.      She was born in Pittsylvania County on April 1, 1932, to Benjamin Haskins and Viola Mattox Haskins. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, William H Blankenship on Dec 4; three brothers, James Earnest Haskins, Benjamin Kermit Haskins and John David Haskins; and four sisters, Eddie Haskins Blankenship, Mae Chism Robertson, Bessie Elisabeth Barbour and Annie Doris Moore.
     She owned and operated Fairlane Beauty Salon at Bassett Forks for 30 years, and she retired from the accounting department at Bassett Furniture Industries. She was a member of Tabernacle Baptist Church.
     Surviving are a daughter, Linda Kanode of Martinsville; two sisters, Emma Gladys Barbour and Janie Hattie Moore, both of Altavista; one grandson; one great-grandson; two step-granddaughters; and three step-great-grandchildren.

     2011 OBITUARY: US Army, WW 2, Jesse Ervin Blankenship, 91, of Martinsville, died Friday, Dec. 9, 2011, at his home. He was born in Franklin County on Nov 10, 1920, to Henritta Keys Blankenship and James Granville Blankenship. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by wife, Madie McMillian Blankenship; sister, Inez Nunn; and brothers, Kenneth ‘Teny' Blankenship, Herman Blankenship, Russell Blankenship, Curtis Blankenship and Henry Blankenship. He was a veteran of the Army during WW2. He was a member of Hillcrest Baptist Church of Ridgeway. He retired from WM Bassett Furniture Co. as a machine operator with 52 years of service.
     Surviving are two daughters, Janet Blankenship Pagans of Martinsville and Shirley Blankenship Wilson of Charlottesville; a son, Wayne Blankenship of Collinsville; a sister, Marie Blankenship of Myrtle Beach, SC; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
