     1911 ASSAULT AND BATTERY: Many people went to Emporia Saturday morning to attend the trial of Amos Monroe Garriott, who was accused of assaulting his fourteen-year old son, Lloyd, with intent to kill. In the trial the fact was brought out that the boy had talked through his hat to the complaining neighbors, so the charge was changed to assault and battery and Mr Garriott was fined $35.00 and costs, which amounted to $41.65.

     1932 WEDDING ANNOUNCEMENT: Annoucement of the marriage of Miss Rose E Garriott to Ralph Emerson Day at Westminster Colorado on Saturday, August 8th. They were married at the home of the groom's parents in Westminster, Colorado on August 8th. Rev AW Liggitt of Denver officiating. The happy young couple went to Estes Park, Colorado for a short wedding trip before returning to La Junta where Mr Day is wire chief for the postal telegraph company.
     Miss Ruby Purdy and Elmer Forsberg of La Junta were Bridesmaid and best man. Others present at the ceremony were Mr and Mrs FW Day, parents of the bridegroom, Mrs Homer Green of Emporia, sister of the bride, and Mr and Mrs FM Day..
     Mrs Day was born in Kansas and attended the Madison high school, Baker university at Baldwin and the Emporia Business college. She has been employed by the FM Stark furniture company in La Junta. Mr Day attended Westminster college and the Pacific Institution of Telegraphy in Denver.

     2002 OBITUARY: John W Garriott. The funeral for former Emporian John William Garriott, 66 of Kansas City, MO, will be at 2 pm Friday in Charter Funerals-Emporia Chapel. The Rev Peter Rupprecht will conduct the service. Burial will be in Memorial Lawn Cemetery. The family will meet friends from 1 pm until service time at the funeral home.
     Instead of flowers, the family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the Wayside Waifs Animal Shelter in Kansas City, MO, or the American Cancer Society and sent in care of the funeral home, 501 W Sixth Ave, Emporia, KS 66801.
     Mr Garriott died Tuesday, Sept. 24, 2002, at St Luke's Northland Hospital in Kansas City, MO.
     John William Garriott, the son of Harvey Leroy and Gladys Pearl Babcock Garriott, was born Sept 4, 1936, at Emporia. He married Suzanne McCord on Jan 12, 1959, at Emporia. She survives.
     He owned and operated the Kerr-McGee Service Station in Emporia and later owned and operated South-Side Auto Sales in Austin, Texas. After he retired, he did maintenance work for people with developmental disabilities.
     Mr Garriott is also survived by one son, Shawn Garriott of El Dorado; one daughter, Lisa Adams of Kansas City, MO; and six grandchildren. A brother, Floyd Garriott, died earlier.
