     1972 OBITUARY:
Birth: Nov 18, 1881, Nelsonville, Nelson County Kentucky, USA, Death: Jan 10, 1972, VH Troutman, 90, retired carpenter, farmer, dies (Jan 10, 1972)
     Virgil Hewitt Troutman, 90, retired carpenter and farmer, died early Monday morning, January 11, at his residence, 405 East Daugherty, Bardstown. He has been in declinlng health for the past year.
     Born November 18, 1881 in the Nelsonville area, Mr. Troutman as a young man farmed and worked in railroad bridge building. He was employed for a time with one of the rubber companies at Akron, Ohio before 1920, later returning to the farm. In World War II he was a carpenter building Government installtions in the Aleutian Islands.
     Before moving to Bardstown, he and his family lived on a farm on 3IE south of Bardstown for several years, locating in the early 1940's on Daugherty Avenue. After his retirement he took great pride in his gardening, growing top quality produce. He was a member of the Bardstown Church of Christ and was a Mason most of his life.
     His wife, who died several years ago, was the former Lettie Brown. He is survived by two sons, Ivo E and Ray S Troutman, of Bardstown, and one daughter, Mrs Malcolm (Nina) Kurtz, Fern Creek; two sisters, Mrs Emmett Chambers, Louisville, and Mrs Rodney Miller, Fort Pierce, FL; one brother, George Troutman, Nelsonville; 10 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
     The body was at the M H Proffitt Funeral Home, North Third Street, where services were conducted at 10 am Wednesday by Brother Harley Walker, minister of the Bardstown Church of Christ. Burial was in the Bardstown Cemetery. Pallbearers were Terry Troutman, Col W R Shephard, Larry, Kenny, Allen and Keith Kurtz.

     2011 OBITUARY: Essie M Troutman 88, Bardstown, died Wednesday, March 9, 2011, at the Loretto Motherhouse in Nerinx. She was born July 26, 1922, in Balltown. She was a graduate of Bethlehem Academy, a former employee of Bardstown Transfer and retired from bookkeeping at Barton Brands Distillery. She also volunteered her time as a bookkeeper at St Joseph Parish of which she was a member. She was an avid bridge player and a caregiver to her sisters who have passed away.
     She was preceded in death by her husband of many years, Ray S "Hank" Troutman; her parents, Eugene and Anna Mae Norris Mattingly; three brothers, Everett Mattingly, Jack Mattingly and Chester Mattingly; and six sisters, Sr Justin Marie, Sr Estelle Marie, Estelle Coomes, Ethel Mattingly, Beulah Begar and Mabel Young. Survivors include a sister, Flaget Clark, Louisville; and several nieces and nephews.
     A Mass of Christian burial will be noon Saturday at the Basilica of St Joseph Proto-Cathedral with burial in Bardstown Cemetery. The Rev Thomas Clark will be the celebrant. Visitation is 4-8 pm Friday at Mann and Greenwell Funeral home with a prayer service at 6:15 pm by Deacon Dick Walsh. Memorial contributions may be made to St Joseph Church or to Masses for Essie Troutman. Mann and Greenwell Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
