     1903 OBITUARY: (Marion A Baldwin) came here last fall from Missouri and died (1902 on tombstone) at home in South Park last night. He was about 48 years of age and leaves a wife and four sons.

     BIOGRAPHY: According to legend he (Roy Alvin Baldwin) was an Attorney, Novelist, State Legislator, Newspaper Publisher. Roy Alvin "RA" Baldwin was an attorney in Slayton, (Lubbock Co) TX in 1935. He had a novel published, "Santi", and was writing a second novel in February 1935 when he wrote a letter to the Princeton telegraph telling of his life. He lived in Mercer Co, MO until 27 Apr 1903, when his family moved to Oregon due to his father's health. In the spring of 1905, after his father's death, he went to the southwest, where he finished his schooling. He engaged in journalism, ran a weekly newspaper, managed two departments on a daily newspaper. He then took up law, got into politics, was elected to three terms in the Texas Legislature, where he was a joint author of a bill creating Texas Technological College in Lubbock. [Randi Ferguson]
     James S Baldwin, Marian's father, was a private in Company G, 23rd MO Volunteers in the Union Army. He died as a result of hemorrhage of the lungs, contracted while a prisoner in Montgomery, AL in 1862. Marian's mother, Lucinda, was short, somewhat feisty, with a dark complexion, and spoke Gaelic.
     Inscription on tombstone: "Jurist-Author-Legislator; Co-Author of Bill Creating Texas Technological College."
