     1969 OBITUARY: Funeral services for Carl DeWitt Garriott, 74, well-known farmer in the Canton area for more than 50 years, were held at 2:30 pm Sunday in the First Christian Church, Canton, with Rev Errol Stepp and Rev Emil Felder officiating. Burial was held in the Canton Cemetery under the direction of the Haigler Funeral Home, Canton. Garriott died in a Watonga hospital Thursday morning following an extended illness.
     Garriott's reputation as a singer was widespread and he was called on countless times to sing at funerals in the Canton, Eagle City and Watonga areas. In addition to farming, he took an active part in his church and community affairs. He was born March 3, 1895, at Cooper, a small town east of Hitchcock. The family moved to Eagle City in 1904 and Garriott was married to Iva Dell Blanc, September 8, 1920.
     He was a member of the First Christian Church, the Canton Masonic Lodge Number 482, receiving his 50-year pin two years ago, and was a veteran of World War 1.
     Survivors include Iva of the home: two sons, Gordon Kay, Canton, and Kenneth Blanc, Norman; a sister Mrs Verna Blankenship, Kennear, Wyoming; two brother, Owen K of Enid, and James, Mesa, Washington; five grandchildren. An infant son Glen DeWitt, preceded him in death.The family has requested that in lieu of other remembrances those who wish may make contributions in Garriott's memory to the church of their choice.

     2010 OBITUARY: Thelma "Dudy" Garriott of Wilburton, OK died Sunday, January 17, 2010 in Tulsa, OK at the age of 86. Dudy was born May 12, 1923 in Pittsburg County, OK to AT and Ruby Lee (Reynolds) Baxter. She attended Damon School and met her future husband at a dance in 1949.

     Dudy married Don Garriott in Poteau, OK. She was of the Baptist Faith and enjoyed fishing, gardening, working in the yard, canning and dancing. Dudy is survived by her husband, Don of the home; daughters, Donna Woolsey of Wilburton, OK and Barbara Christy of Wilburton, OK; sisters, Dora Webster of Checotah, OK and Virgie White of Eufaula, OK; nephews, Steve White, Roy Dale Baxter, Allen Baxter, Harold Dobson and Buddy Sadler; nieces, Sharon McDougall, Judy Jack, Debbie Baxter, Betty Cassada, Ann Bates, Linda Baxter and Charlene Little; grandchild, Eric Woolsey and other family and friends.

     She was preceded in death by her parents, AT and Ruby Lee Baxter; three brothers, Troy Baxter, Loy Baxter and "B" Roy Allen Baxter. The Funeral Service will be held 2:00 pm, Friday, January 22, 2010 at Jones Harkins Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Clint Cannon officiating.

     The interment will follow at Mountain Station Cemetery, Wilburton, OK. Pallbearers will be: Roy Dale Baxter, Harold Dobson, Bill Hodge, Pete Swafford, Mike Hodge and Glen Deala. Honorary Pallbearers will be Curtis Wilson, Lewis White, Bob White, Steven White, Ray White and Ray Oller. Arrangements entrusted to Jones Harkins Funeral Home, Wilburton, OK.

     2010 OBITUARY: Dorothy Marie Garriott, 80, passed away after a long illness on May 15, 2010. She was born August 17, 1929 in Oklahoma City, OK to Troy Edgar and Ida Bonnie (Moore) Wall. She loved to paint, and many of her paintings were on display and sold. She also enjoyed traveling, her dogs and her flower garden. She is survived by her husband Kenneth of the home; step daughter: Carolyn Williams; 2 brothers: Leroy Wall and Wendell Wall; numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be 10:00 am, Saturday, May 22, 2010 at Sunny Lane Chapel with burial at Sunny Lane Cemetery.

     2012 OBITUARY: Stella (Hathaway) passed away peacefully in her home after a long battle with cancer. She was predeceased by her parents Alfredo Rivera and Christina Suazo-Rivera; brother Peter Rivera; and sister Roseabelle Pacheco. 
     Stella was survived by her husband Owen Hathaway; son Fred P. Moya (wife Teresa); grandchildren: Michelle Moya-Evans (husband Greg), Chris Moya, Stephanie Lucas (husband Julian), Shaundel Moya, Antoinette Moya-Patnode (husband Laine); great-grandchildren: Stephen, Danielle, Reagan and Joshua; brothers: Alfred Rivera (Yvonne) and Leo Rivera (Margaret); sisters: Rose Cowling (Alan) and Helen Anaya (Natividad); sisters-in-law: Millie Craig (Eldon), Joy Hathaway, Ethel Rivera; brother-in-law Jose Pacheco; special nieces: Patsy Defnet, Gloria Olivas, and Christine Mier. Stella had many nieces, nephews, and many Godchildren who were all very special to her. 
     Stella retired after many years from First Interstate Bank, formerly Santa Fe National Bank. Stella was an avid bowler who bowled throughout her illness, only taking time to recuperate from treatments. The casino was her best medicine, no matter how bad she felt she was always up to going to the casino. Stella began her fight in September of 2005, armed with her faith and never ending determination to stay healthy to take care of her disabled husband. Growing up close to Cristo Rey Church she was devoted to the church. Her illness left her confused and short on memory, but she always remembered her donation to the church. Stella will be missed by all who knew her. 
     Her life was celebrated in prayer and a Rosary recitation on July 10, 2012 at Cristo Rey Church. Funeral mass was on July 11, 2012 at Cristo Rey Church. Burial followed in the Santa Fe National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations be sent to Santa Fe Meals on Wheels program.

     2014 OBITUARY: Retha Mae Hathaway passed away May 27, 2014 in Burkburnett, TX. She was born in Kiowa, OK on December 18, 1922 to Billy and Ellen Mahuren. During her life, Retha enjoyed canning vegetables and jellies, and baking. She was known to make banana bread and give it as gifts to family and friends. Retha also enjoyed writing and even had some poems published in the Stockyards Paper. 
     She was preceded in death by her parents; her beloved husband, Floyd; son, Charles Preston Speck; son in law, Edward Moore; and sister, Arlene. Retha is survived by her daughters, Billie Frances Johnston and husband Bobby, Lenora Louise James and husband Tony, and Verna Moore; grandchildren: Eddie Moore, Trina Stewart, Robert Lynn Johnston and wife Connie, Johnny Graham Johnston, and Gary Michael Guiles; 5 great grandchildren; 2 great-great grandchildren; and brother, Jack Mahuren.

     2016 OBITUARY: Martha Ann Craig Garriott of Norman died Monday, January 25, 2016 after a prolonged illness. She was born June 29, 1952 in Oklahoma City to Charles and Ella Craig. She attended Sacred Heart grade school and Mount St Mary High School. She graduated from St Anthony School of Nursing and received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from SNU and a Masters of Occupational Health from UCO. She worked for many years as a school nurse in the Norman School district. She was also an active member of the National Guard for 15 years.
     Martha was preceded in death by her husband David Garriott. She is survived by son Nicholas Craig Garriott, brothers, Mike Craig, John Craig, Ed Enslinger, Rick Craig, sisters Elaine Laughlin and Barbara Weigl. 
     Grave side service will be 2:00 PM Wednesday January 27, 2016 at Sunset Memorial Park and Cemetery, Norman, OK.

     2017 OBITUARY: Kenneth Blanc Garriott, 92, passed away on April 6, 2017 in Oklahoma City, OK. He was born on June 20, 1924 in Eagle City, OK to Carl Dewitt and Iva Dell (Blanc) Garriott. He attended Southwestern Oklahoma State University and graduated in June 1947 with a BS in Pharmacy. He worked in the Binger, OKC and Norman areas as a Pharmacist for over 50 years. After retirement he worked as a relief pharmacist. On 23 September 1943, Kenneth joined the army. He was discharged on 21 March 1946 as a corporal. Kenneth was saved and joined the Eagle City Methodist Church in 1947. He always remembered being baptized in a muddy farm pond. 
     During his life, Kenneth was a member of Rotary, a Jaycee and a Scout Leader, serving as Cub Scout Master and as Scout Master, as well as several other scouting roles. He was a member of Lodge #38 AF&AM in Norman, OK, and was also a member of Chapter and Council of Royal Arch Masons. 
     He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Dorothy; son, David Garriott; brother, Gordon "Kay" Garriott. Survivors include his children, Carolyn Williams; Curtis Garriott (Matty); grandchildren, Kenneth Sinor (Sarah), Christopher Sinor (April), John Garbett (Ivanna), Nicholas Garriott, Tanessa Furfey (Matthew); Zachary Garriott; several great grandchildren; and his beloved pet, Solo. 
     A funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm, Wednesday, April 12, 2017 at the Sunny Lane Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow at Sunny Lane Cemetery.

     2018 OBITUARY: JOY DELIGHT HATHAWAY-- Joy Delight Driskill Hathaway, age 83 of Okay, Oklahoma was born in Tulsa on January 9, 1935 to Jim and Edna Mae (Darr) Driskill, and she passed away on May 1st, 2018. She married Dale R Hathaway on October 1, 1954 in Okmulgee, Oklahoma. They were married 56 wonderful years at the time of his death in 2009.
     Joy worked 35 years for the U.S. Department of Interior, and 8 years for the Bureau of Land Management as a Draftsman, and 27 years with the US Solicitor’s Office as a Paralegal, retiring in 1997. She received many awards over the years, including a meritorious Service Award from the Department of the Interior, on May 6, 1991.

     Joy is survived by two sons, Rusty W. Hathaway and his wife Sara of Dripping Springs, Texas and Brian T Hathaway and his wife Danielle of Okay, Oklahoma. One daughter-In-Law, Vicki Hathaway of Keifer, Oklahoma. Three grandsons, James, Paul and Zachary Hathaway. Three granddaughters, Breana, Allie and Rachel Hathaway. One sister-in-law Virginia Driskill of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma. One sister-in-law, Millie Hathaway Craig and her husband Eldon of Jenks, Oklahoma. Several Nieces and Nephews.
     She was preceded in death by her husband, Dale, her parents, her sons, Perry D. Hathaway, Earl K. Hathaway. One daughter, Lavona Kay Hathaway. One Brother, J.R. Driskill and one sister, Wilma Driskill Pangburn.
Visitation will be held on Friday, May 4, 2018 at Shipman Funeral Home
     Funeral services will be held at 2PM on Saturday, May 5, 2018 at Shipman Funeral Home Chapel 2980 US 69 in Wagoner, Oklahoma. Burial will follow at Three Rivers Cemetery in Okay, Oklahoma.

     2019 OBITUARY: Dr Owen Kay Garriott. (died 15 Apr 2019, Huntsville, Madison Co, AL) Astronaut. In 1973 he spent 60 days aboard the Skylab space station, the first United States space station launched and operated by NASA, as part of a three man crew for the Skylab 3 mission. In 1983 he spent 10 days on board the Space Shuttle Columbia as part of the Spacelab-1 mission, a joint NASA and European Space Agency program to demonstrate the capability to conduct advanced scientific experiments in outer space. He served in the United States Navy from 1953 to 1956, and in 1965 was one of six astronauts selected by NASA. He was inducted into the Oklahoma Aviation and Space Hall of Fame in 1980, the United States Astronaut Hall of Fame in 1997, and the Oklahoma Military Hall of Fame in 2000. Along with his Skylab crewmates, Alan Bean and Jack Lousma, he was awarded the Robert J Collier Trophy in 1973 and received the Dr Robert H Goddard Memorial Trophy from President Gerald Ford.

     2020 OBITUARY: Donald “Don” Lee Garriott, 91, of Wilburton, Oklahoma passed away on Tuesday, July 28, 2020 at his home.
     Viewing will be held on Thursday, July 30, 2020 from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. with the family greeting friends from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at Jones Harkins Funeral Home Chapel. A graveside funeral service will be held on Friday, July 31, 2020 at Mountain Station Cemetery at 10:00 am with Troy Bullard officiating. Don will be laid to rest beside his beloved, Thelma. Pallbearers will be Roy Dale Baxter, Eric Woolsey, Brad Sutmiller, Glenn Deela, Dennis Deela and Gerald Shero. Honorary Pallbearers will be John Hulsey, Curtis Wilson, Bill Wilson and Buddy Sadler.
     Don was born on October 3, 1928 in Eagle City, Oklahoma to James Garriott and Lavern (Conklin) Garriott. He married Thelma Baxter in 1949 in Poteau. Don worked in California in the oil and gas industry. When he moved to Wilburton, he began working for Eastern Oklahoma State College in the maintenance division until his retirement.
     He is survived by his two daughters: Donna Woolsey of Wilburton and Barbara Christie of Quinton; one grandson: Eric Woolsey of Wilburton; one great granddaughter: Cheyenne Woolsey of Wilburton; two sisters: Joyce Helton of California and Carol Swafford of Washington; several nephews and nieces: Roy Dale Baxter and wife, Pam of McAlester, Judy Jack and husband, Jim of Wilburton, Steve White and wife, Ann of Merced, CA, Sharon McDougall and Earl of Salinas, CA, Debbie Baxter of Wilburton, Betty Cassada of Hartshorne, Buddy Sadler of Eufaula, and Allen Baxter of Farmersville, CA.

     1892 LAND RUSH: Nicholas Garriott made the run for the Cheyenne-Arapaho Lands in Oklahoma Territory on 19 Apr 1892. They lived on a claim in Cooper until 1904, when Nicholas sold the claim and bought an Indian allotment south of Canton, in Blaine County.
