     MILITARY: A Samuel S Abbott enlisted on 6 Jun 1898, Louisville, KY, as a Private, Battery A, 1st Artillery. He was discharged on 23 Feb 1899, (cause of discharge: telegraphed instructions).
     He was admitted to the National Home for Disabled Volunteer Soldiers in Danville, Vermilion Co, IL, with the following disabilities: 1036 Myocarditis, chr; 1037 Arterio Sclerosis (moderate degree); 0705 Hemorrhoids, ext; and 0922 Loss Rt Eye- Traumatic.
     Samuel S Abbott 58, b. Trimble Co, KY, was described as: 5'-7-3/4" tall, fair complexion, blue eyes, gray hair, could read, was a protestant. He was discharged to Detroit, MI, single, with a brother Pearl G Abbott, Baltimore, MD (1504 Smallwood Ave).
     He was re-admitted on 30 Jan 1929 and provided a pension of $40/month [certificate 1632-285]. He was discharged again on 13 Jun 1930 (cause of discharge: Dis OR).

     1902 NEWS CLIPPING: dated Friday, 16 May 1902 "Local: Last Thursday the court of appeals affirmed the judgement of the Trimble Circuit Court in the case of Sam Abbott against the Commonwealth. This was the third trial of this rather celebrated case. Abbott on his first appeal was given 15 years in the penitentiary, the court of appeals granted him a new trial because of errors and this resulted in a life sentence. Again a new trial was granted and he now gets a life sentence. Abbott killed Sam Craig, the betrayer of his sister, and whom he was about to desert after a forced marriage."
