     HER 1ST MARRIAGE: Barbara Ann DARTER Davis, was a widow (listed as Barbry Ann Davis) of David Davis (Sr), daughter of Isaac and Sarah DARTER, sister of Jane, Jacob's first wife. Barbara had four children by her first husband, stepchildren to Jacob [from 1850 census]:

     1930 Los Angeles Co, CA census: has (all b. IN) Ray P Garrett 42, Painter-Auto Repair Shop; Maud E Garrett 40; and Wilbur Ray Garrett 22.

     BIOGRAPHY: Jacob was one of the "sons" who used the "Garrett" spelling. The "Garriott" spelling was used on his first marriage return [Fayette Co, IN Marriage Bk C/106] completed by his brother Reuben-- the minister who married them. A land sale to "Jacob Gariote" of Fayette Co, IN appears in the Madison County, IN records [Deed Book 3/174]. His "brothers" obituaries mention each other-- but don't mention him. [Hancock County Democrat, 4 May 1908, pg 6].
     Jacob was a carpenter. He purchased two properties in Fayette Co. in 1835: a lot in Alquina from Hughes Larimore on 13 Jun 1835 [Deed Bk G/255]-- which he sold to Joseph Ross on 23 Sep 1835 [Deed Bk J/396], and 40 acres in Madison Co from Adam Pence on 10 Oct 1935 [Deed Bk G/526]. He purchased a lot from Isaac Darter (his father-in-law) on 17 Mar 1838, one from David Maze on 25 Nov 1840 [Deed Bk K/625], and one from Lewis Payton on 17 Jan 1849 [Deed Bk O/463].
     Samuel may have resided at the Madison County property at his death, as it is near "Fishersburg" that is on the county line. Early land records in Hamilton County were destroyed in 1864 by a fire.

     1864 PROBATE WILL: [Fayette Co, IN Probate Common Pleas Book 3/227, filed 1 Dec 1864] Barbara's estate administration papers list David Davis, Mahala Blackburn, and Naomi Garrett as being her only heirs.
