     1830 Fayette Co, IN census: Samuel is listed as a male between 40-50, with one male [10-15], no females. Reuben was listed separately [pg 57]. A John Garrett is listed [pg 7].

     1829 TAXES PAID: [Fayette Co, IN 1829 Tax Book, page 19] Samuel Garrett is first listed in Fayette Co, IN, in 1829, when he paid 37-1/2 cents each in county and state taxes. Reuben's biography claims the family moved to Fayette Co, IN in 1815, but the 1820 census does not list them. No land transfers for Samuel have been located in Fayette Co.
     According to family tradition, Samuel moved his family from Rockingham Co, VA, to Harrison Co, KY, early in the 1800's, and on to Fayette Co, IN somewhat later. In son Nicholas Garriott's obituary, they lived "near" Cynthiana, Bourbon Co, KY until 1820. Cynthiana is in Harrison County, but only five miles from the county line.57
     After Samuel's death, Sarah lived with her son Madison until her death. No grave sites have been located for either Samuel or Sarah. No record has been found that Samuel used the "Garriott" spelling adopted by many of his descendants.58
