     1871 LAND PURCHASE: A "John N" Garriott purchased 4,000 acres of public land [Section NWNW, S28, T19N, R1E, Meridian 3], RR type, County "20", IL: Vol.794/27, ID #503547, in 1871.

     1890 OBITUARY: Mrs Amanda C Garriott died at her home in the south part of this city, last Tuesday, June 24th, and was buried at the Tunbridge Cemetery yesterday morning. She was a native of this county, and was forty-two years, five months and twenty-five days old. She had been a member of the U B Church for sixteen years, and was a Christian woman. She leaves a husband and eight children, four sons and four daughters to mourn her death. Rev D MacArthur conducted the services.

     CHARLES GARRIOTT FAMILY BIOGRAPHY: Charles Allen Garriott was born January 15 1887, in Warrensburg, Illinois, a son of John Richard and Amanda (Cross) Garriott. His school years were spent at Tunbridge.
     Lena Mae Welch was born May 20, 1890, in the foothills of the Ozarks, in Missouri, a daughter of Elijah Gamaliel and Martha Alice (Miller) Welch. She attended Charter Oak and Douglas schools.
     The Garriotts were married in Decatur, Illinois on October 25, 1908 and to them was born one daughter, Mildred Lucile on June 11, 1910. She married John Morgan of Clinton.
     After their marriage they lived in Clinton until 1913 when they moved to Decatur, Illinois. November 18, 1918, they moved back to Clinton, buying property at 1202 East Madison Street, where they lived for 55 years.
     Charlie was employed by the Illinois Central Railroad for 55 years; he retired in 1950 as a Mill room foreman.
     They attended the First Baptist Church. In his spare time Charlie's hobby was what he called "Hobby Farming."  Lena's hobby was crocheting and raising flowers. Their yard was a show-piece with all the different varieties of flowers.  They both loved to travel and did a lot of it in their younger days.
     On October 2, 1972, they moved to 1301 East Main Street where they lived 11 years before Mr Garriott passed away July 23, 1983. He is buried in Memorial Park Cemetery.

     JOHN MORGAN FAMILY BIOGRAPHY: John Joseph Morgan was born in Baltimore, Maryland, May 15, 1907, a son of John Joseph and Margaret (Krause) Morgan. The family moved to Clinton in 1912. Johnny went to Douglas School and Clinton High.
     Mildred Lucille Garriott was born June 11, 1910, in Clinton, a daughter of Charles Allen and Lena Mae (Welch) Garriott. She attended Lincoln grade school and Clinton High.
     John and Mildred, Cleo "Red" McConnell and Juanita McMahon were married in a double ceremony, October 23, 1928 in Chicago, Illinois. Each couple acting as attendants for the other.
     Mildred worked at the garment factory in Clinton from 1928 to 1932.
     They had four children: John Joseph, Jr, born July 11, 1930, died November 12, 1961; Robert Lee, born September 18, 1934, died Jul 18, 1963; Caroline, born September 28, 1935, died three hours after birth; Charlene Ann (Peach), born January 15, 1938.
     John worked in the machine shop at the Illinois Central round house from 1928 to 1932. In 1925 the family moved to Peoria, Illinois where Johnny was employed at Caterpillar Company. In 1957 he became ill and took his disability; he passed away June 9, 1979 and is buried in Fondulac Cemetery, East Peoria, Illinois. Mildred resides in East Peoria near her daughter, Charlene. She has two grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren.
