2009 OBITUARY: Virginia Dean McBride Jolley, age 86, was born on February 19, 1923 in Twin Falls, Idaho; the fourth of six children born to Calvin Alton McBride and Ruth Inice Poole. The McBrides lived and farmed in many locations throughout the northwest before settling in central Idaho. Virginia moved to Provo, Utah with her mother and step-father, Charles Otis Mason in early 1942. In the fall of that year she met Leo Vernon Jolley, Jr. during a Halloween party at her home in Provo. They married on April 5, 1943, and were sealed in the Salt Lake LDS Temple on March 3, 1964.
Virginia was a very talented homemaker. While Leo served in the Pacific during WW2 and later in the Korean War, Virginia worked at Geneva Steel during the day and made clothes for her children to help provide for their growing family. Upon Leo's return from service, they purchased a home on Main Street in Orem, where they raised their family of five; three sons and two daughters. Virginia's home was always open to those in need. She took in and helped raise several children, taking on a job as a cook at Cherry Hill Elementary School in Orem. Her garden was always well tended and open for the taking. When Leo died in 1979, she worked at Cherry Hill until retirement and continued to provide for her family. She held many church assignments and was an avid genealogist and temple worker. During the summer of 2001, Virginia was diagnosed with dementia. With the help of her children, she continued to live in her home until the fall of 2007, when she moved into the caring hands of Bel Aire Assisted Living.         She died on July 17, 2009 surrounded by her children, grandchildren and the capable staff of Bel Aire. She was beloved by all that met her and will always be known for her compassion and love of all mankind.
