     BIOGRAPHY: 59 William L Garriott, "This old time citizen of Brown Township, Hancock Co, IN, was born in Fayette Co, IN, 12 Sep 1823, son of Reuben and Sarah [Darter] Garriott, came to Hancock Co. in 1836. He was married to Margaret L Steele in 1842. She was born in Brown Co, OH, in 1819. Since their marriage they have resided in or near Warrington where they have went in and out before that people for half a century.
     "Mr Garriott has served the people long and well as Justice of the Peace, and Trustee for time immemorial, and has settled estates without number, so much so I hardly know what Brown [Township] would do without him. A Democrat of the old school, never wavering in the long line he walked.
     Mrs Garriott are members of the Christian Church. Mrs Garriottt's father's name was James Steele; mother's name Jane [Reeves] Steele, early citizens of Hancock Co. Also children's names: HC, Eliza Newman (daughter-in-law?), Martha A Wood, Sarah M Powers and Amanda F, at home HC; WH Powers reside at Wilkinson. Mr Wood is deceased and buried @ Greenfield."

     1884 PROBATE WILL: [Hancock Co, IN Will Book 2/304-8, Dated 2 Oct 1884, recorded 30 Oct 1884]  WOOD, Martha A will, refers to four children listed above, and mentions her Mathusheck piano. Martha's father is also to be the guardian of Olive, Sarah, and John.

    1904 PROBATE WILL: [Hancock Co, IN Will Bk 4/178-82, recorded 25 Jul 1904] GARRIOTT, Amanda F, In her will Amanda [apparently unmarried] refers to her sister, Martha A Wood dec. and her children and grandchildren viz; Sarah A Burke, John C Wood, and Pearl Gibbs. She also refers to Ollie Perin dec. viz Wm Lindley; George Perin and Charles Perin [Ollie's relationship to Amanda is not given].

    James Steele, father of Margaret, was a blacksmith in the village of Ogden and was an officer of the Blue River Encampment, No. 48, IOOF of Rushville.

    1903 PROBATE: [Hancock Co, Brown Twp, Will Book 4/359-61, dated 17 Aug 1903, recorded 17 Sep 1906]  Garriott, Margaret T (Steele). In her will Margaret refers to, "Children of my deceased daughter Martha A Wood viz:" Sarah A Burke, John C Wood, and Pearl Gibbs, and.... Children of Ellie Perin dec. viz: William Lindley, George Perin, and Charles Perin.


​     2017 OBITUARY: Donald R. Hogan, Sr, 82 years of age passed away Thursday September 7, 2017 in Louisville, KY. He was born April 6, 1935 in Jeffersonville, IN to the late Donald and Edna Bell Hogan. Don was retired from Retailers Supply Co in New Albany after 40 years of employment and was a member of Eastern Heights Baptist Church in Jeffersonville, IN. He enjoyed fishing, Indiana University sports and most of all spending time with his family.
     Survivors include his wife of 58 years Mary Hurley "JoAnn" Hogan; daughter, Vicci Hogan, son, Donald R Hogan, Jr. and his wife Betty, brother, William Hogan, sisters, Mabel Macrander and Cathy Casey, grandchildren, Sarah Fagan, Kevin Turner, Julianna Turner, Bailey Hogan, Samuel Turner, great-grandchildren, Genesis, Journey, Joplin, Olivia, and Parker.
     Visitation will be from 1:00 pm to 8:00 pm Sunday at Kraft Funeral Service, 2776 Charlestown Road, New Albany, Indiana. His Funeral Service will be 11:00 am Monday at the funeral home chapel with burial at Kraft-Graceland Memorial Park in New Albany, Indiana.
