     BIOGRAPHY: Laura, the only child to survive to adulthood, was orphaned at the age of seven and raised by her paternal grandparents in Jasper Co, IN. Perhaps by her maternal grandparents in Scott Co, IN as well. Laura and William lived in Jefferson Co, IN after their marriage. They later moved to Colorado Springs, CO for four years, then to Jasper Co, IN. Laura Garriott 16, granddaughter, is enumerated in the 1880 Scott Co, IN census with Isaac D Herrod 61, Farmer, and Matilda Herrod 58.

     1937 OBITUARY: Mrs Laura Alice Harrod, a resident of Wheatfield for over 22 years, passed away at the home of her daughter, Mrs Ross Ropp, in Wheatfield, Wednesday morning at seven o'clock. The death of this estimable lady came as a result of complications attendant upon her advanced age of nearly 74 years.
     Mrs Harrod was born at Austin, Indiana, on February 28, 1864. She was the daughter of William and Sophronia Garriott. On December 17, 1885, she was united in marriage with William Harrod, in Jefferson County, Indiana, where the young couple started housekeeping. They resided for four years at Colorado Springs, CO, coming to Jasper County 22 years ago from Jefferson County and have since been residents of this county.
     Six children came to grace the home of Mr and Mrs Harrod, four of whom survive. They are: Curtis, of Bison, SD; Burley Harrod and Mrs Ross Ropp of Wheatfield; and Halleck Harrod of CA. Mrs Cora Hamilton died in 1927 and Dewey Harrod died in 1900. The deceased is survived by two brothers?? in addition to her husband and the four above named children.
     Funeral services will be conducted from the Ross Ropp residence in Wheatfield Friday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock with the Rev Downey officiating. Interment will be made in the Prater cemetery. The body was removed from the John E Worland funeral home Thursday afternoon to the Ropp home.
