     MILITARY: 23 Jerry [US 55.329.144] entered service in the US Army on 26 Nov 1952 at Indianapolis, Marion Co, IN. He was described as 71" tall, 175#, Brown Hair, Brown eyes, a farmer-- self-employed. He reached the rank of Corporal (T) on 18 Mar 1954. His most significant duty assignment was as Construction Specialist, Company B, 199th Engineer Batallian (Combat), Corps of Engineers, Fort Leonard Wood, MO. He was discharged on 25 Nov 1954, Fort Leonard Wood, MO. His VA pension records indicate his mother brought him to the VA Hospital in Danville, IL on 31 Jul 1964, and that he had been treated at the Logansport State Hospital, Logansport, Cass Co, IN from April to December, 1963.

     1964 SUICIDE: Jerry shot himself with a hunting rifle. His ten year old son Lonnie found him in the barn on the farm where they lived. He died at 5 am the following day of traumatic brain damage at St Elizabeth's Hospital, Lafayette, Tippecanoe Co, IN.

     PENSION: 23 Greta applied [appl XC 20.115.800] for pension benefits after the death of her husband on behalf of her two minor children.

     HER 2ND MARRIAGE: Greta 2nd married Bernard "Bud" N CHILDS [b. 23 Jul 1929, Indianapolis, Marion Co, IN; d. 2 Jan 2007- age 77], SSN: 304-28-5869/IN, twice divorced, on 11 Apr 1971, Otterbein, Benton Co, IN, recorded Warren Co, IN: Bk 22/381. He was the son of Myron Childs and Bessie Brickert, and had four minor children at the time of the marriage: Ann 15, John 7, Mary 12, and Paul 14, all lived in Brownsburg, IN.


     2020 OBITUARY: Attica - Greta Louise Childs, 88, Attica, passed away in the Williamsport Nursing and Rehabilitation Center on Sunday, December 13, 2020 at 9:40 am. Greta was born in Otterbein, Indiana on February 27, 1932. She was the daughter of the late Eilhard and Anne (Janssen) Feldkamp. She was raised in Benton County just outside Otterbein. She was a 1950 graduate of Gilboa High School. She has resided in Warren Township in Warren County since 1961.
     Greta assisted her husband in farming. She also served as a bus driver of the Metropolitan School District of Warren County. She transported children to the Pine Village and Seeger Shools for nearly 30 years. Greta was a member of the Attica Christian Church. She enjoyed working outdoors on the farm and tending to her flower garden.
     Greta was first married to Gerald Garriott. He preceded her in death in November of 1964. She later married Bernard Childs on April 11, 1971 in the St John's Lutheran Church in Otterbein, IN. Bernard preceded her in death on January 2, 2007.
     Greta leaves behind two sons, Lon (Cynthia) Garriott and Rick (Eileen) Garriott, both of Attica; six grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren and a great great-grandson. She was preceded in death by a stepson, Dennis Childs along with three sisters, Anna Marie Schurr, Catherine Goad and Alberta Smith.
     Friends may call at the Maus Funeral Home, Attica, on Friday, December 18th, from 11:00 am until service time at 1:00 pm with Pastor Hunter Chadwell officiating. Burial will follow in the Weston Cemetery, Rensselaer, IN. Memorial contributions may be made to the Attica Christian Church. All people attending are required to wear masks and do social distancing.
