     BIOGRAPHY: John W Royse was the fourth born in a family of twelve children, of whom the parents were Martin Royse [b. 9 Jun 1787, KY] and Catharine Evans [b. 24 Jun 1784, VA]. John, at 12, came with his parents to Indiana Territory. His parents were married in Clark Co, IN in February, 1811, and were among the earliest settlers of Fredericksburg. John W remained with his parents until the age of twenty-one years, during which time he received a much better education than was common at that time.
     On 25 Dec 1834, he married Mary Garriott, who bore him four children, only Charles B is now living. He second married Miriam E Watkins on 19 Dec 1877. A farmer, he now owns a good farm of 125 acres of land. He is a Republican, and he and wife and son and wife are members of the Methodist Episcopal Church. 24

     1883 PENSION: An Elizabeth Royse of Fredericksburg, Wash Co, IN, was listed as a pensioner on the Roll, cause for which pensioned, "Mother (dead)," receiving $8/month, [certificate 9.970]. Do not know of any relationship.
