     BIOGRAPHY: Simeon "Sim" moved to Indiana with his father, Ambrose, and brothers Jacob and William soon after the turn of the century. Jacob later moved to Jackson County. Opposed to slavery, they settled near Harristown, IN, in Washington Township, Washington County.

     BIOGRAPHY: Simeon and William Garriott built a horse mill in 1821, but it was scarcely ever in good order and ran only a short time. Simeon Garriott conducted a distillery between 1820 and 1830 on Elk Creek, Section 26. He bought a tanning yard from Isaac Vaughn, his father-in-law about 1820. Simeon, along with James Garriott, operated a general merchandise store in Little York, IN.24
     Records show that, over the years, Simeon obtained many acres of Elk Creek Valley land from the government. The first deed, dated 1818, was for 160 acres. The two brothers built homes on adjoining farms. Their first wives, Rebecca and Nancy Vaughn, were sisters.

     1838 LAND PURCHASE: [Government Land Office Doc# 13477, pg 437, dated 15 Aug 1838, Jeffersonville, IN] Simeon Garriott of Wash Co, IN purchased 40 acres [SW4 NW4 Section 29 T3N R6E] in Scott Co, IN from the government, by Martin Van Buren, President.
     1841 LAND PURCHASE: [Government Land Office Doc# 15544, pg 006, dated 9 Jan 1841, Jeffersonville, IN] Simeon Garriott of Wash Co, IN purchased 80 acres [E2 NW4 Section 20 T3N R6E] in Scott Co, IN from the government, by Martin Van Buren, President.
     1843 LAND PURCHASE: [Government Land Office Doc# 16862, pg 315, dated 10 Apr 1843, Jeffersonville, IN] Simeon Garriott of Wash Co, IN purchased 80 acres [W2 NW4 Section 20 T3N R6E] in Scott Co, IN from the government, by John Tyler, President.

    1868 WILL PROBATE: [Wash Co, IN Will Record C/526-7, probated 12 Nov 1868] Simeon Garriott:
     Dated 25 Sep 1866: In the name of the benevolent Father of all I, Simeon Garriott of the County of Washington and State of Indiana do make and publish this my last will and testament.
     First it is my will that my funeral expenses and all my outstanding debts be paid out of my personal property and
     2nd it is my will that my wife Mary Garriott and her and my two sons to wit: Francis M Garriott and David G Garriott have the home farm, the household and kitchen furniture and two cows and two young sows and three hundred bushels of corn and four good hoggs, also that the said Francis M Garriott is to have the mare and colt that he now claims and the two boys Francis M and David G Garriott is to have all the farming utentials (sic) that are now on the farm and.....
     3rd third it is my will that the ballance (sic) of my personal property rights credits and effects be equally divided between my children by my first wife to (wit) John V Garriott, William D Garriott, Mary Rlice, James M Garriott, Amos M Garriott, Simeon A Garriott and Zacharah S Garriott after deducting from said John V Garriotts portion Seven Hundred dollars and also after deducting Seven Hundred dollars from Zacharah S Garrotts interest in my estate and.....
     I hereby constitute and appoint James M Garriott my true and Lawfull agent or atty to collect receive and receipt for all moneys rights and effects now due me and to dispose of all my personal property not before named in this my last will as he may think best, the same as I might do even I living and make distributions as set forth in this my last will and testament in testimony hereof I have hereunto set my hand and seal this 25th day of September, A.D. 1868.
