BIOGRAPHY: Raymond and Thelma (Barr) Garriott. We will always have a warm spot in our hearts for Clinton. We were both born and reared there, graduated from CCHS. My husband played baseball, football and basketball and was a 12-letter man.
After graduation, I worked for a number of Clinton attorneys, Grover Hoff, Lott and Wirt Herrick, John F Pear, E B Mitchell, Rayburn Wilson, Judge W F Gray and part-time work for Noah Stivers.
Raymond's parents were Ed and Jennie Garriott, 422 West South; mine were Clyde and Louise Barr, 520 South Jackson.  Both our dads worked for the Illinois Central for 40 years. Raymond was an only child, I was one of six, my three brothers are deceased, but I have two sisters, Elizabeth Kraft in Florida, and Thora Smith, in LaGrange, Illinois.
In 1927, I married Rex McMillan, then editor of the Clinton Journal, and we had one daughter, Sally Jo, later divorced. 1935 to 1941, I worked for the State in Springfield. In 1939, Raymond and I were married, and in 1941, moved to Oak Park; in 1950, we bought our present home in Lisle. We both worked for General Motors, 35 years for him, 15 years for me; now retired. We are both in our church, I'm secretary of my homemakers unit; my husband does the bookkeeping for our son-in-law's cleaning business. We have two grand-daughters and five great-grandchildren.
