     BIOGRAPHY: David Stucker Hottel [George's father], an old and prominent citizen of Jackson Township, was born in Wash Co, IN on 5 Aug 1828, being the oldest of 8 children born to Ephraim and Sarah (Stucker) Hottel. His parents were natives of VA and IN respectively. The father immigrated to IN about 1806, settling in Harrison Co. He had limited advantages of schools, but succeeded in securing a practical education. On 10 Jun 1849 he married Lucy A Eslinger; they had nine children: Sarah E, Andrew E, Harriett A, Francis E, Eliza A, George, Mary A, Ida M, and Lucinda C. He is a member of the United Brethern Church; his oldest son a minister. He [was] a Prohibitionist, and takes fair interest in the political questions of the day, and is a successful farmer. 24      1940 OBITUARY: George A Hottell, well known and highly esteemed resident of Georgetown, passed away this (Wednesday) morning at nine o'clock. Death was caused from a complication of diseases. The deceased was seventy-eight years of age. He was a member of the United Brethren Church and active in the Prohibitionist Party.  Funeral services are planned for Friday afternoon at two o'clock at the Georgetown United Brethren Church conducted by the Rev A D Smith and the Rev W F Brown. Burial will be in Wolfe Cemetery. Surviving are his wife Mrs Jennie Maude Hottell, seven sons, George Mann, David C and Herschel Hottell of Paoli, Francis M of Pleasant Lake, Paul A of New Albany, Augusta and Austin Hottell of Georgetown, four daughters, Mrs Lula Mae Martin of Spring Creek, NC, Miss Lucy E Hottell, Mrs Sarah E Quinn and Mrs Mary Davis, all of New Albany. He also leaves twenty-seven grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and four sisters, Mrs Isabelle Martin of New Goshen, Mrs Mary Overton, the Rev Ida M Hottell and Mrs Katie Martin, all of Los Angeles, Cal.

     1958 OBITUARY: Mrs Jennie M Hottell, 79, of Georgetown, widow of George A Hottell passed away last Thursday morning at 1:45 o'clock in the Floyd County Memorial Hospital in New Albany where she was admitted two days before her death. She was a daughter of the late Francis M and Mary E Taylor Garriott. Mrs Hottell was a member of the Georgetown EUB Church for 53 years and taught a Sunday school class for 30 years. Mrs Hottell was at the Swarens Funeral Home in Ramsey until noon Sunday when she was removed to the Georgetown EUB Church. Funeral services were held at 2:00 o'clock, conducted by the Rev AL Emmert, pastor and the Rev CF Stanton of New Albany. Prentice Seacat accompanied by Mrs HK Engleman sang. Burial was in Wolfe Cemetery. The pallbearers were Wilbur Seacat, Benny Hinton, Harry Miller, Gene Herthel, Paul Davis and Oren Sarles.
     Survivors include four sons, Francis M Hottell of Butler, Paul A Hottell of Clarksville, Kenneth A and Kendall A Hottell of Georgetown. She also leaves two stepsons, George M and Davis C Hottell of Paoli, four stepdaughters, Mrs Harry (Lillie) Martin and Miss Lucy Hottell of Spring Creek, NC, Mrs David (Sarah) Quinn and Mrs William (Mary) Davis of New Albany, 29 grandchildren, two great-grandchildren, and several step-great-grandchildren, 1 sister, Miss Mary Garriott and six brothers, Samuel L, Paul I, and Homer A Garriott, of Scottsburg, Simeon F Garriott of Brownstown, Delwin R Garriott of Calgary, Alberta, Canada and Rev Taylor A Garriott, of Dunkirk.

     2000 OBITUARY: Funeral services for Kendall A Hottell, 90, of Clarksville, will be held at 1 pm Saturday, Nov 18, at Gehlbach and Royse Funeral Home, Georgetown, with burial in Wolfe Cemetery, Georgetown. He died Wednesday, Nov 15, 2000, at Westminster Health Care Center, Clarksville. He was a native of Harrison County, a retired dairy farmer and a member of Christ United Methodist Church in Georgetown. Survivors include his wife, the former Edna Rochner; a daughter, Darla Welsh; a son, Kendall L Hottell; five grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. Visitation at the funeral home will be from 1 to 9 pm Friday, Nov 17, and after 8 am Saturday. The family requests that expressions of sympathy take the form of contributions to Christ United Methodist Church, Georgetown.

     2008 OBITUARY: Funeral services for Edna H Hottell, 96, of Georgetown, will be at 11 am Wednesday, March 12, at Gehlbach and Royse Funeral Home in Georgetown, with burial in Wolfe Cemetery. She died Saturday, March 8, 2008, at Providence Retirement Home in New Albany. She was born in New Albany on March 17, 1911, the daughter of Augustus and Alice Rusk Rochner. Along with her husband, she was the co-owner and operator of their dairy business. She was the oldest living graduate of Georgetown High School from the class of 1929 and was also a professional basketball player for Georgetown in 1929 and 1930 where she was paid five dollars per game. She was a lifetime member of Christ United Methodist Church formerly the EUB.
     Survivors include a son, Kendall L Hottell and his wife, Georgia, of Indianapolis; a daughter, Darla Herthel and her husband, Ray, Georgetown; five grandchildren, Rhonda Smith, Starlight, Gary Welsh, Pleasureville, KY, Scott Hottell, Angola, Todd Hottell, Brownsburg and Lora Reihl, Fishers; and eight great grandchildren, Matt, Nathan, Mindy and Nicole Smith, Jeff and Kari Hudson and Mason, Abigail, Luke and Madison Hottell. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband Kendall Augustus Hottell. Visitation at the funeral will be from 4 to 8 pm on Tuesday, March 11, and after 9 am on Wednesday. The family suggests memorial gifts be made to Christ United Methodist Church in her memory.
