     1930 OBITUARY: Emery and Mary lived in Jasper County at the time of his death, 1/2 mile west of Aix, Indiana. He was a farmer all his life. They came to Jasper County 37 years ago, which would be 1920.

     1930 OBITUARY: Emory Garriott Dies Suddenly- Suffers Heart Attack at Home in Union Twp.
     Emory Garriott, a well known farmer in the Aix community, Union township, expired quite suddenly at his home at about ten-thirty Thursday morning, the cause of his death being attributed to heart failure, from which ailment he had been afflicted with for several weeks. His lifeless body was discovered by members of the family near a fence in the rear yard.
     He had been ill only about six weeks, but during that length of time had never been bedfast. With the exception of doing light chores around the place, he had not indulged in any hard labor to aggravate his ailment, and a short time before being stricken he seemed to have been in his usual health. When members of the family discovered the body, however, life had been extinct for some time.
     Mr Garriott was a native of Indiana, having been born in Jackson County, and at the time of his death, he was sixty-six years of age. When but 20 years of age he came to Union Township, Jasper County, and has resided here continuously since. Practically his entire lifetime has been devoted to the tilling of the soil, and has been successful as a farmer. He was greatly esteemed by all who knew him and a large circle of friends and neighbors mourn their loss.
     Besides the wife, Mr Garriott is survived by four children, namely Clarence and Ernest Garriott of Valparaiso, Mrs Neva Lakin of near Parr and Mrs Nellie Schreeg of Chicago. Deceased is also survived by four brothers and two sisters: Orville and Preston of Chicago, Oliver of Attica, David of Cincinnati, Mrs Marion Gant of Attica, and Mrs Minnie Densford of Crothersville, IN.
     Coroner Wright was summoned to the Garriott home which is one-half mile west of Aix (IN), and pronounced death due to heart failure. Funeral services will be conducted from the Methodist Church in this city Sunday afternoon at two o'clock, with the Pastor, Rev Claude Young in charge. Interment will be made in Weston Cemetery.

     1957 OBITUARY: MRS MARY GARRIOTT.. Rensselaer - Mrs Mary E. Garriott, 90, Rensselaer, mother of Clarence Garriott, RFD 3, Valparaiso, died Saturday in a Jasper County hospital after a week's illness. Since the death of her husband in 1930, she had resided with a daughter, Neva in Rensselaer. Also surviving are three sisters, two brothers, 14 grandchildren and 30 great grandchildren.
Services were held at 2 pm Tuesday in Jackson Funeral home, Rensselaer. Burial will be in Weston cemetery.
