     1ST MARRIAGE: Simeon Finley married Frances five months after his discharge from the army. She was 16 years old. This marriage produced two sons:
07----AUGUSTUS EDWARD "Eddie" GARRIOTT [b. 9 Dec 1866, Wash Co, IN; d. soon after father's death on 21 Jul 1881- age 15, Wash Co, IN, bur. Mt. Hebron Cemetery], and
07----JAMES H GARRIOTT [b. Jul 1868, IN; d. 2 Nov 1869- age 1].

     2ND MARRIAGE: Simeon Finley married second, fifteen year old Sarah M RAYHILL, sister to Finley's first wife Frances Elizabeth Rayhill. This marriage produced three sons:
07----ABRAM DALE SR GARRIOTT [b. 1872, listed below];
07----SIMEON DUE GARRIOTT [b. 1877, listed below]; and
07----CHARLES FINLEY GARRIOTT [b. 1879, listed below].
     Simeon Finley was called "Finley" perhaps (as suggested by Ruth Thayer Ravenscroft) because there were other Simeons, cousins of his living in the same locality.

     CENSUS:
     1870 Wash Co, IN census: has (all b. IN) Finley Garriott 26, Farmer w/ $1,000 RE; Frances Garriott 20, Keeping House; and Eddie Garriott 3.
     1880 Scott Co, IN census: has (all b. IN) Sarah Garriott 24, Keeping House; Augustus E Garriott 13, Stepson; Abram D Garriott 8; Simeon D Garriott 3; and Charles F Garriott 1.

     MILITARY: 16 He enlisted in New Albany, IN, along with his cousins Simeon (son of John Vaughn), William D. (son of James M "Uncle Jimmy"), and William H Thompson (son of Amanda Garriott), on 9 Aug 1862 and mustered into service 19 Aug 1862 as a private in Capt Morris' Co, 66thmarried under the name of Sarah M Rayhill to Simeon on 12 Oct 1871 in Wash Co, IN (at 15 years of age). He had been previously married but his first wife died Regiment Indiana Infantry, which organization subsequently became Company F. He mustered out with the company and was honorably discharged as a private 3 Jun 1865 at Washington, DC. Prisoner of War records show him captured 30 Aug 1862 (eleven days after he mustered in) at Richmond, KY (not Virginia) and paroled the same day, same place. At the time of enrollment he stated he was born in Washington, Indiana; age 19, occupation farmer.

     1880 WIDOW'S PENSION: 16 Sarah M Garriott declared, on 29 Jun 1880, that she is 24 years old and widow of Simeon F Garriott. She . Children under 16: Augustus E (by 1st wife, b. 9 Dec 1866); Abe Dale (b. 9 Mar 1873); Simeon D (b. 6 Jan 1877); and Charles Finley (b. 9 Apr 1879). Widow's affidavit [claim 275.336] filed 18 Apr 1887, gives age as 30. She claims Simeon F married her sister in 1865; the sister died on 9 Oct 1870. He was a farmer and for the last three years of his life was a preacher.

     1886 MINORS PENSION: 16 Sarah M Garriott applied for a pension for her minor children [claim 215.335, certificate 442.633]--- Minors of Simeon F Garriott, from 5 Apr 1886, ending 5 Apr 1895.
    Application made by Sarah M Garriott, now Fleenor, formerly widow of Simeon F Garriott, for minor children until their arriving at age 16. Children (to age 16): Eddie E (d. 21 Jul 1881); Abe (Abram or Abraham) Dale (8 Mar 1888); Simeon D (5 Jan 1893); and Charles Finley (8 Apr 1895). Affidavit by William Gardner, guardian, states that the soldier lived within one-half mile of Leota, Scott Co, IN.
     Dates shown by papers: Enlisted 12 Aug 1862. Discharged 3 Jun 1865. Widow's application filed 2 Jul 1880. Her pension paid to 4 Apr 1886. Minor's application filed 5 Dec 1892. Guardian, William Gardner, was appointed 30 Nov 1892. Former marriage of soldier 30 Nov 1865. Last marriage of soldier 11 Sep 1871. Remarriage of widow 4 Apr 1886. Scott Co, IN marriage license to James Fleenor and Sarah M Garriott, married 4 Apr 1886, Scott Co, IN.
     General Affidavit on 1 Jul 1895 by Simeon Garriott, age 57, of Little York, and Vincent Cravens, states that at his death Simeon F Garriott left three children and another was born to his widow shortly after the soldier's death. Oldest child died shortly after soldier's death, leaving Abraham D, Simeon D, and Charles F, only children under 16.
