    1917 ADOPTIONS: The three youngest children, Marcella, Charles and Martha, were given up for adoption by their parents, Simeon Due and Eliza Grace Bantz Garriott. No reason was given for the adoptions.

     1955 AFFIDAVIT: I, Simeon Dhu Garriott, living at 516 West Bijou, Colorado Springs, El Paso County, Colorado was born January 6, 1877 in Leota, Scott County, Indiana. The son of Simeon Finley Garriott born on April 2, 1843, Little York, Indiana and his wife, Sarah M Rayhill.  My father died at Leota, Scott County, Indiana on march 31, 1879. He was the son of William Dhu Garriott, and his first wife, Catharine (Finley) Garriott who died in 1855 as stated on her gravestone in the Mt Hebron cemetery, near Little York, Indiana.  My grandmother, Catherine (Finley) Garriott had two brothers, Harrison Finley and Wesley Finley. As a child I have visited many times in the home of "Uncle Wes Finley" who lived on a farm near Leota, Scott County, Indiana. My mother lived with her people after the death of my father, near Little York and she often took my brothers Abram Dale Garriott and Charles Finley Garriott, and me to visit our relatives, among them "Uncle Wes Finley", the brother of my paternal grandmother. My mother married as her second husband, James Fleenor, April 4, 1886 in Scott County, Indiana. My father, Simeon Finley Garriott was known as "Finley" Garriott and was named for his mothers surname as well as his grandfather, Simeon Garriott, son of Ambrose.

     PENSION:23 Simeon applied for a pension in February, 1951, based on his son, Finley's, military service and death. He was awarded a pension [XC 9.210] along with his ex-wife. Simeon moved to Colorado Springs, CO, in 1954. He was at the Korthaus Rest Home, Oklahoma City, OK, at the time of his death.

     PENSION:23 Eliza Grace Bantz Parsons filed for, and received, insurance benefits from the US Army, and for pension benefits as a dependent mother [certificate C-9210] of Finley Bantz Garriott. In her claim for benefits she stated she was widowed prior to her marriage to Parsons.
     Grace lived in Oklahoma City at the time of her son's death. In April 1918 she moved to Cromwell [or Syracuse], IN, with four of her children; Bessie 18, Paul 14, Elise 11, and Christine 9. Her son S G was in the US Navy in Boston, MA. She returned to Oklahoma City in 1919. In 1936 she moved to Inglewood, CA, then to Rosemont, CA, in 1947.

    FATHER'S PENSION:23 John M Bantz, Sargent, Co. K, 12 IN Infantry Volunteers, enlisted 22 Apr 1861 at Vernon, IN, for one year. He was discharged at expiration of service on 19 May 1862, Washington, DC [re: John M Dixon, 2nd Lt, Paris, IN]. He, claiming deafness, applied for, and received, a pension [certificate 351.059], commencing 16 Dec 1891, ending 19 Jan 1895. He left three children under 16 at his death: Otto (b. 11 Jul 1876); Asbury [b. 20 Nov 1877]; and Gracie (b. 20 Jan 1880). In 1885 he was employed in the saddle and harness shop. He was a harness-maker and lived in Crothersville, Jackson Co, IN, at the time of his death (in 1895).

     MILITARY:23 Finley Bantz Garriott enlisted on 5 Jan 1918, in Oklahoma City, OK, [US 1.080.749]. A direct service connection was established for his disability incurred during service, and diagnosed as "empyema." He died two months later from pneumonia at Ft Sam Houston, San Antonio, Bexar Co, TX.

     PENSION: 23 Finley's father, Simeon applied for in February 1951, and received, a pension based on Finley's military service [certificate XC 9210]. Finley's remarried mother, Grace Parsons, applied for and received a pension based on Finley's service in the army [certificate C 9210].

     1954 OBITUARY: Services for SD Garriot, 77, of 919-1/2 NW 12, will be at 10 am Thursday in the Smith & Kernka funeral chapel, with burial in McAlester. He died of a cerebral hemorrhage Monday in a local rest home. (last name was consistently misspelled)
     Garriot joined the Home State Life Insurance Co here the year it was organized and worked there until his retirement in 1944. He had been an agent and later an inspector of agents and work supervisor across the state. A native of Indiana, he had been a city resident since 1912.
     Survivors include three daughters, Mrs Hall B Wester, and Mrs WB Sanderson, both of Fort Worth; and Mrs Harry B, El Monte, CA; one son, Paul Garriot, 2416 NW 19; one brother, AD Garriot, Colorado Springs, CO; a half-brother, Hugh Fleenor, Marion, IN; eight grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

     1973 OBITUARY: George S Garriott, 88, of Collinsville passed away on September 15, 2012. He was born in Dallas on August 29, 1924. Visitation will be at Slay Memorial Funeral Center located at 400 U.S. 377 in Aubrey, TX 76227 from 4-6 pm on Sunday, September 16. Funeral Service will be held at 1:00 pm on Monday, September 17 at Midway Baptist Church in Aubrey with burial to follow at Tioga Cemetery. He was a World War II veteran of three years. George was a member of the Hella Temple Shrine and Masonry for 60 years. He served as the Vice President and Director of Operations at Falstaff Beer Distributorship for 10 years. He served in the beer industry for over 40 years. George worked at the State Fair of Texas in some capacity since the age of 13. He was a 14 year employee of Southwestern Bell. George was a member for over 25 years at the American Legion Post #550 where he also served as Post Commander for two years. Preceded in death by his parents Simion and Lela McDowell Garriott; and sister Grace Lela McDavitt. George married Eloise James on November 23, 1955 in Dallas, and she preceded him in death. George is survived by his son Robert and wife Linda Garriott; three grandchildren, Robert William Garriott Jr, Erin Marie Garriott, Jared Simion Ray Garriott, and one great-grandchild Carson Ray Garriott all of Collinsville, TX. Services under the direction of Slay Memorial Funeral Center.

     2011 OBITUARY: Martha Elizabeth Moore Sholer, May 8, 1915 - Sept. 22, 2011, a 54-year resident of San Jose, died September 22, age 96. Born in Oklahoma, Martha graduated from William Woods College in 1934, and was wife and mother in Missouri and California. She was preceded in death by husband Jack and is survived by sons Michael (Carol) Sholer of Glendale, CA and James (Susan) Sholer of Morgan Hill, CA; four grandchildren, and three great grandchildren. Martha worked for the FBI, Cupertino School District, and Western Contract Furnishers. She volunteered for many years at Central Christian Church and San Jose Bible College (now William Jessup University). Memorial service at Central Christian Church, 2555 Meridian Ave, San Jose, Sat Nov. 5 at 2:00 pm.
