     1978 OBITUARY: Rev Vernon Willard Dies at Ranch Here. The Rev Vernon Willard, 64, pastor of First United Methodist Church, Fritch, died of a heart attack at the family ranch in the Needwood Community, 11 miles east of Lutie, Wednesday, February 1. He had come there alone to see about cattle he had there. When he did not return home that evening, a daughter-in-law, Mrs Vernon C Willard of Bovina, and a family friend came to look for him and found his body, Thursday morning in a pasture where he had ridden so many times in his life. His son was with a group of farmers in Washington, DC.
     Rev Willard was born and grew up on the ranch and entered the ministry of the Methodist Church from the Aberdeen Methodist Church in the early 1940s. This was his second year as pastor of the Fritch church and he planned to retire at the end of the conference year in May. He and his wife would have returned to this area to live.
     He attended Needwood and Aberdeen schools, then studied at Clarendon Junior College and McMurry College, Abilene. Most of his 35 years as a pastor were in the Panhandle and among the churches he served were Harrah Church at Pampa, Stinnett, Miami, Mobeetie, Clarendon Circuit, Shamrock Circuit which included Aberdeen, Samnorwood and Dozier Methodist Churches, also Oklahoma Lane, St. John's Church at Plainview, Chillicothe, Happy and Darrouzett.
     Rev Willard was the son of the late Mr and Mrs Nevin Willard and a member of a family that came to the Needwood community, east of Lutie, in the early 1890s from Columbus. This was one of the pioneer families which was not only interested in developing the land, but in education of its young people as well. Rev Willard was an active community worker wherever he lived. He was married to Miss Belle Collins at Ingleside December 25, 1933. She also was a member of one of the pioneer families of the county who later moved to the Gulf Coast.
     Funeral services were conducted at First United Methodist Church at Fritch with Dr WA Appling, superintendent of the Pampa District, United Methodist Church, officiating, assisted by the Rev Lyman Wood of Pampa. Friends more than filled all available rooms of the church.
     Burial services were conducted at 4:30 pm at North Fairview Cemetery, Wellington, when friends here were joined by others from towns where he had served. Nephews were pallbearers. Survivors are his wife, Mrs Belle Willard; two sons Vernon C Willard of Bovina and James David Willard of Bakersfield, California; a daughter, Mrs Bill (Virginia) Eason of Irving; three sisters, Mrs Marjorie Roy and Mrs Tommie Judd of Amarillo and Mrs Cleo Stonecipher of Muleshoe; two brothers, Aubrey Willard of Santa Fe, NM and Elmer Willard of Quanah; 9 grandchildren, and one great grandchild. Relatives here are an aunt, Miss Willie Willard, and a cousin, Mrs CR Hankins. One daughter, Bertha Belle, preceded him in death.

     1981 OBITUARY: Mrs Vernon Willard of Bovina, a native of Collingsworth County and widow of a long-time Methodist pastor, died Wednesday, July 29. She was 73 and had been ill for several months. She was a member of a pioneer Wellington family. Mrs Willard, the former Velma Agnes (Belle) Collins, worked closely with her husband in the many churches of which he was pastor during his 38 years of active ministry in the Northwest Texas Methodist Conference.
     Mrs. Willard was born at Wellington May 20, 1908, the daughter of Seymour and Bertha Garriott Collins. The family moved to the Corpus Christi area when she was a child. She returned to this county following her marriage to Vernon Willard on December 25, 1933 at Ingleside. She had lived in Bovina since Rev Willard's death.
     Survivors include two sons, Vernon C Willard of Bovina, and James David Willard of Bakersfield, CA: a daughter, Mrs. Virginia Eason of Irving; four sisters, Mrs Alice Muckleroy of Baytown, Mrs Gladys Whiteney and Mrs Ruby Bauch of Ingleside and Mrs Lena Marshall of Livingston; two brothers, Homer Collins of Ingleside and Milton Collins of Goliad, 9 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by a daughter, Bertha Belle Carpenter.

​     2005 OBITUARY: Calvin Lee Muckleroy passed away Thursday, December 1, 2005, at home surrounded by his loving family. He was born December 6, 1936, in Engleside, TX to Ralph and Alice Muckleroy. He was a retired console operator at Exxon with 27 years of service and a veteran of the US Army. He was an avid outdoorsman, enjoyed hunting and fishing, and was of the Methodist faith.
     He is preceded in death by his parents, brother, Ralph Muckleroy, and sister, Faye Muckleroy. He is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Julia (Judy) Muckleroy of Baytown, sons, Dean Muckleroy, Bryan Muckleroy, and Kevin Muckleroy all of Baytown, brothers, Glenn Muckleroy and wife Delores of Lampassas, Robert Muckleroy of Baytown, sister-in-law, Ellen Johnson and husband Brad of Baytown, 9 grandchildren, and 1 great grandchild.

     2010 OBITUARY: Julia Lynn Muckleroy passed away Thursday morning, June 17, 2010, at a Houston hospital. She was born December 17, 1938, in Baytown to Dewey Maston and Annie Mae (Arnold) Waltman. She was a member of St. Mark's United Methodist Church. She loved planting flowers, gardening, and antiques. Most of all she loved her family and spending time with them. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother, great grandmother, sister-in-law, and friend to many. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
     Mrs Muckleroy is preceded in death by her parents, husband, Calvin Muckleroy, sister, Ellen Johnson, and brother-in-law, Ralph Muckleroy. She is survived by her sons, Dean Muckleroy and wife, Kathleen, Bryan Muckleroy and wife, Kim, and Kevin Muckleroy and wife, Michelle, all of Baytown; daughter-in-law, Jennifer Richey; brothers-in-law, Brad Johnson, Robert Muckleroy, and Glen Muckleroy; grandchildren, Heather Muckleroy, Katie and Mike Caveness, Amanda and Trace Armstrong, Jason Saunders, Kevin Muckleroy II, Meagan, Clayton, Alexis, Calvin II, Hunter, Madison, and Kaeden Muckleroy; great grandchildren, Kaivan and Karisyn Armstrong and Jase Caveness; and her three dogs, Maggie, Maple, and Clyde.
     The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at Crespo & Jirrels Funeral Home. A Celebration of Life will be Wednesday, June 23, 2010 at 2:00 pm at Crespo & Jirrels Chapel with Rev Mike Proctor and Rev Nancy Cobbs officiating. Burial will follow at Cedarcrest Cemetery. Honoring the family as pallbearers are Dean, Bryan, and Kevin Muckleroy, Kevin Muckleroy II., Clayton Muckleroy, and Jason Saunders.      2013 OBITUARY: Bakersville, CA — James David Willard, 74, of Bakersfield died Wednesday, June 26, 2013.
David was born Sept. 21, 1939, in Lutie, Collingsworth County, Texas, to Vernon Everest Willard and Velma Agnes Collins Willard. He grew up in Texas as the third of four children. He was married to Caroline Corser from 1963 to 1982.
     After graduating from high school, David attended McMurry University in Abilene, Texas, before transferring to University of Texas at Austin. There, he earned both a Bachelor's of Arts and a Masters of Arts degrees in English. He taught in the English department at Bakersfield College in Bakersfield from 1968 to 2000. David was a talented musician and often played the piano for friends at his home and for faculty gatherings on campus.
     He was preceded in death by a brother, Vernon C; and two sisters, Bertha and Virginia. Survivors include two sons, Michael and Jeffrey; two daughters-in-law, Mary Kay and Judy; and five grand children. Per David's request, there will be no memorial services.
     The family suggests memorials be to BC Foundation Scholarship Fund, Bakersfield College Foundation, 1801 Panorama Drive, Bakersfield, CA 93305. Please state on the Memo line: "In Memory of David Willard."
